Hiring for Executive Director

20% Theatre Company is currently hiring for an Executive Director. This is a new position, breaking apart the current Executive Artistic Director role into separate Executive and Artistic Director positions. The Executive Director is responsible for 20% Theatre Company's consistent achievement of its mission, and will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for 20% Theatre Company’s staff, development, programs and expansion. Key duties include implementing and evaluating 20% Theatre's programs, managing internal operations, developing financial capacities and representing the organization to the board, donors, community partners and the general public.

In the first year this position will be flexible, annual and part-time, averaging 20 hrs/week with the goal of .75 or full-time after the first year. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors (long-term) and the Artistic Director & Founder (short-term). The Executive Director supervises the Marketing & Communications Manager and the Producing Artistic Director (future). Approximate salary is $30,000/year for the first part-time year of this position.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Management (40%):
-Maintain, support and further develop a strong Board of Directors; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for organization, and attend all board meetings
-In conjunction with the Board, engage and energize 20% Theatre’s volunteers, board members, committees and partnering organizations
-Oversee development and execution of Strategic Plan
-Support the vision of Artistic Director & Founder
-Expand upon existing partnerships and begin to build new ones, establishing and/or deepening relationships with community leaders and mission-aligned organizations
-Attend & network at appropriate conferences and workshops as representative of the organization
-Oversee and manage accessibility efforts, including programming, recruitment, adherence to the organization’s ADA Plan, and attending 20% Theatre Access Committee meetings
-Oversee and manage Front of House staff & volunteers for productions
-Oversee, manage, and continue to develop program/production/event evaluation metrics and practices

Fundraising & Financial (40%):
-In collaboration with the board Fundraising Committee, oversee and manage fundraising campaigns, including direct-mail and several online campaigns annually
-Oversee and manage donor relations, including deepening existing relationships as well as seeking funding through new grants, sponsorships, and individual gifts
-In collaboration with the board and Events & Outreach Committee, oversee and manage annual fundraiser(s)
-Oversee and manage grants calendar and the on-time submission of grants and grant final reports – including writing said grants and reports in collaboration with Artistic Director and/or Marketing & Communications Manager, as well as ongoing research of new grant opportunities
-Oversee & manage organization financials, in collaboration with Board Treasurer, including bookkeeping and preparing financial documents for board meetings
-Set up and manage Box Office operations for productions, special events and fundraisers
-Oversee, execute and manage contracts and payments/invoicing related to theater spaces, artists, independent contractors, and other vendors as needed

Marketing & Communications (20%):
-Supervise and support the Marketing & Communications Manager
-Oversee marketing plan and timeline
-Working with board and Marketing & Communications Manager, deepen and refine all aspects of organization communications


The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

-Minimum of 3 years of non-profit management experience
-Investment in the communities that 20% Theatre serves, including commitment to diversity, dignity, equity and inclusion
-Experience managing/supervising staff
-Financial and fundraising management experience
-Experience serving on and/or working with a board of directors
-Exceptional written communication skills
-Strong interpersonal skills with people at all levels
-Excellent time management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
-Self-direction: able to work independently and remotely, function productively, prioritize projects, accept direction, and make deadlines
-Ability to manage and share pertinent information with staff and board
-Ability to present, inform, and motivate individuals and groups about 20% Theatre’s mission, history, and programming
-Proficiency with Google Drive, Microsoft Office, and Quickbooks required
-Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
-Flexible schedule
-Diplomacy and patience along with a sense of humor
