2006-2007:

New Works Playreading Series
Featuring staged readings of new plays by local and national playwrights, this free one-nighter series will weave in and out of the 20% Theatre 2006-2007 season. All shows at Acadia Cafe - corner of Franklin and Nicollet Avenues, Minneapolis.

The Prop
Written by Renee Knight, directed by Bethany Ford
The Prop is a sequel to Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. Unlike The Seagull, which leaves a glimmer of hope in Nina's departure for Yelets, The Prop exposes the inescapability of one's role in tragedy.

The Trials of Gertrude Moody
Written by Kimberly Burke, directed by Shannon C. Harman
The Trials of Gertrude Moody follows the story of Gertrude, a parrot, and how her 400-year adventure of observing and learning from humans leads to her own transformation into a human. A bit quirky? Of course. Entertaining? Indeed.

The Other Bar Fly's Song
Written and directed by Nicole Joy Brunsvold
The Other Bar Fly's Song uses the words of Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath to daringly deconstruct their relationship. While alive, Plath was constantly in the shadow of "superstar" poet Sexton. After Plath's death, Sexton could never escape the curse of Plath's posthumous success. Here they merge and collide while facing fame and rejection, friendship and jealousy, depression, liberation, life, and of course, death.

Five till 12
Written by Sarah Saltwick, directed by Ruth Kohtz
This full-length piece opens on the one-year anniversary of Leigh's miscarriage. A love story set in the present and past tense, Five Till 12 explores the external and internal forces that keep us together and apart.

Standards of Care
Written by award-winning playwright Tobias K. Davis, directed by 20% Theatre's Artistic Director and Founder, Claire Avitabile
Standards of Care is a harsh and honest exploration of some of the realities that face the transgendered community, from the battle of personal gender dysphoria to the trials of therapy, family support, and gender reconstructive surgery. Standards of Care is groud-breaking theatre not to be missed (though some material may not be appropriate for young children).
